The chakras form the connection between our body and its functions with our less tangible aspects of Being: thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Enhancing our awareness of these ‘wheels of energy’ by practising Yoga gifts us greater awareness for everything we do and enhances our understanding of the effects of our thoughts on our life. It can help to make us more resilient and adaptable to life’s up and downs.
During our Yoga practice were rarely take note of the chakras. They are energy centres located along the spine between the top of the head and the tip of the coccyx. Yet we often become aware of feeling calmer, stronger, more focussed or clear headed as a result of the postures, movements and breathing practices. Why is that? Can we tailor the practice to achieve specific changes?
In this short workshop we will practise familiar postures and movements combined with attention to the chakras. You can explore how leading your mind to definite body regions during yoga creates awareness: of restrictive patterns; feelings, which encourage us or hold us back; movements, releasing courage or inviting equanimity; energising breath awareness. The chakras of Brow (third eye), Heart and Base will be in the forefront of this workshop. Representing clear vision, integration, compassion and grounding these three energy centres form the beginnings for a conscious yoga practice and a focussed exploration.
